Who is Wendy Getchell and why should i trust her to do my tarot reading

me at the water front

That's me enjoying a relaxing morning on the Halifax NS waterfront. One of my favorite past times now that I am officially retired from the work force. And this is how I meditate. A walking meditation is the easiest way for me to quiet my ever busy mind.

I am a retired Registered Nurse, a retired military member, a mother of 3, a widow, a former Coroner "in-and-for-the-province-of Saskatchewan" (it was a short stint but quite memorable), and a believer in the power of the Tarot cards

graduate nurse

I graduated from a 2 year nursing diploma program in 1985 and after writing the final exams became a full fledged Registered Nurse. Wow, can't believe that was over 30+ years ago

Now let me stop right here and tell you, in no way am I going to be offering any nursing advice during your Tarot card reading. I am no longer licensed to practice as an RN. Your cards might suggest at some point, if an issue within a certain body area is noted, that you go ahead and seek professional advice

During my 24 years as a practicing licensed RN I worked in a variety of settings, from large urban hospitals, to small rural settings. I even spent  years providing care in isolated communities that had no doctors, or hospitals. And for a short time I worked as a volunteer ambulance attendant and, coroner in the province of Saskatchewan. All of this experience helped open my eyes not just to "life", but also death and the dying process (and it really is a process)

young children

Along the way I met and married a wonderful man and we enjoyed raising 3 amazing children. They are of course all grown and living their own lives now. Sadly I lost my husband some years ago but our children are a living testament to the kind and generous soul that he was

tarot book and glasses

Over the years (I actually started studying while I was still a practicing RN) I studied and read about the Tarot cards. I took on-line courses both from John Edward (psychic medium) and Sandy Anastasi (she has a lot of titles) and started to read, first for myself, and then for others. I found, if I listened to my inner voices I had quite a nack for understanding the cards and what they were trying to say. By the way, the Tarot book you see in the picture to the left is one of my favorites

sound healer certificate

More recently I have studied sound healing including meditative music, tuning forks, and singing bowls. These have fascinated me for years. I even dabbled in healing through "therapeutic touch". During my years of nursing practice I realized that music and sound vibrations had definitive (real and tangible) affects on people, both emotionally/mentally and physically. During some research I also discovered others have come to the same conclusion. And research has "proven" scientifically the effects of sound and sound vibration on the human body

How does listening to your favorite music make you feel? How about listening to music (or voices) that you don't like? How do you feel then? There's your proof

My Tarot card journey

I do have a number of Tarot decks (quite a few actually) but my favorite is the Rider-Waite deck. Over the years I have become comfortable with their images, often "feeling" their meanings. Understanding what the numbers mean (numerology) and even the colors, helps to deepen my connection to the meanings and stories, and advice, that the cards are trying to pass along.

major arcana

These are the Major Arcana of the Rider-Waite deck. They represent all the major happenings in your your lives, from birth, education, relationships, work, and death

My favorite spread for Tarot card readings is the celtic cross, but of course I adapt if the circumstance warrants. One thing I will NOT do is a 1 card reading. Why? We all know that life is not black & white, yes or no, and I feel I would a doing a dis-service to you by offering such a reading. At the very least a short reading will always have 3 cards minimum

why did i call this site "Elder Witch Tarot"?

Well, what is a witch? No I don't fly around on a broom (although the Harry Potter movies made it look like fun, if not a little precarious at times), nor wear a pointed black hat (well, I do recall doing so on several Halloween excursions)

For me, being a witch means to trust, and use, the powers of the universe. They are all around us, every day, and anyone can tap in and use them if they so desire. I desire.

I desire to help others to live the best lives that they can. Lives that they choose to live in their own ways. And if I can help others to live longer, happier, more fulfilling lives then that helps me to thrive as well

And the "elder" part? Have you seen my gray hair? Besides, being older (and hopefully wiser) I have discovered I no longer care so much what others think of me and my life choices. It is after all MY LIFE and I am going to live, love, laugh as much as I can. Being a positive influence on others, putting more positive and loving vibrational energies out in the universe is a power I do have ... and I'm not afraid to use it
